Give Trump A Chance

By Darrell Roberts

No matter how ridiculous the Presidency of Donald J. Trump continues to become, without fail, someone somewhere is telling somebody else to just “give Trump a chance.”

Give Trump a chance to do what exactly?

It indeed appears a significant disconnect exists between those that continue to defend President Trump and everyone else. After two years of frequent interactions with Trump supporters, here are some valuable learned lessons.

One:  Who remains on board the Trump train?

Through personal experience, the Trump train continues to be made up of those also highlighted by research and polling data: older white men, along with nearly everyone (regardless age or sex) from Trump forever states.

Two:  Why are these folks still Trump supporters?

Tricky question–they just are. However, a couple of central themes emerge around those that yours personally has and continues to encounter. A discussion of Trump with most of these folks sounds virtually the same.

Many of them do not follow Trump’s Twitter account, so they do not know much about his ridiculous tweets.  They also do not trust any news media outlets, except Breitbart, some dude’s absurd blog (usually with a title along the lines of liberalhatingconservativegoodguyknowshillaryisguiltyofsomethingjustbecause.org–or similar), and of course, Fox “News.”   There also those “always-Trump” supporters that do not follow any news outlets but seem to conform to the synergetic groupthink of their Trump-heavy communities.

Three:  What does it all mean?

In the purest form, there seems to be nothing anyone can do to persuade most Trump hardline followers to the existence of any reality other than their alternative truth Trump world.  During a majority of communications with Trump supporters, they often seem heavily loaded with opinions which seem oblivious to verifiable facts–in my vocabulary, this is referred to as taking the “Hannity position.”

The “Hannity position” utilizes a homogenous but weak defense of any Trump misdeed.   For instance, any new development that places Trump another step closer to Russia is largely ignored or simply overlooked as “fake” news.

Trump says no business interest in Russia?  Facts have emerged that was a lie.  So what?

Trump says no contact between his campaign and Russia?  Facts emerge to prove that was a lie.  So what?

Donald Trump, Jr., Paul Manafort, and Jared Kushner (aka The Three Chumps) meet with a Russian banker, along with a couple of other Russians (one of which is a notorious computer data thief and the other a suspected billion dollar Russian money launderer), to acquire dirt on Hillary Clinton–which some could easily view as collusion.  After all, they did come together to meet with the belief that each side would benefit by working together to ensure the defeat of Hillary Clinton.  So what?

Besides, the Trump folks say they did not get anything useful from the meeting.  Intent?  So what?

Furthermore, what about Hillary’s emails, Benghazi, Lock Her Up, Bill Clinton, Monica, George Soros–anything else just to explain it all away.

Plus, the Trump legion “just know” Hillary Clinton is a criminal, but they can’t adequately explain what crimes she has committed.  Even worse, they can’t describe how after constant scrutiny and investigations that she has never been convicted (nor yet charged) for her obvious but unexplainable crimes.  However, in truth, Hillary Clinton is the scapegoat for reality.

Everything Trump says or does is somehow justifiable because of either Hillary Clinton or Barrack Hussein Obama. In many ways, Trump and his supporters owe a debt of gratitude to both Obama and  Clinton.

Four: Why should anyone care?

Too many idealistic folks seem to falsely believe that the Trump loyalists have yet to see the “real” Trump. They see him, and to them, he is them.

Unfortunately, topics like racism, sexism, the truth, and human decency are not universally accepted as tipping points to not support a ridiculous buffoon. In fact, each and every time one hears Trump saying or wishing to implement something horrendous–it is usually followed by claiming how said indecency will be popular among the Trump base. Although sad, perhaps hard to fathom, the reality remains that way too many people will continue to support the presidency of Donald J. Trump.

Some folks consider Trump as a mythical “very stable genius” that is playing 3-dimensional chess.  In obvious truth, Trump is only playing a game of slinging feces in the political zoo.

Thus, all anti-Trump folks must focus on what matters. In the 2016 election, Trump was already outnumbered by nearly three million votes. Indeed, some previous Trump voters are likely to have already seen the error of their ways and have jumped off the Trump train.  As for those remaining on board Team Trump, all must accept they are there to stay.

So, it is a waste of time to try to reason with a most unreasonable group of supporters.  Instead, our collective energy must be focussed on working and standing together to flex our ever increasing strength in numbers.  Every day, it is up to each of us to ensure we are working to “Make The White House Great Again” as it has fallen into shambles, a real “shit hole” in only one year under President Donald J. Trump.

Do not forget, the 2018 mid-term election is inching another day closer.  Unfortunately, Trump is not up for re-election consideration until 2020.  However, 2018 is a first significant opportunity to send not just a message but inflict a real blow President Trump’s power by telling each and every one of his political enablers, “You’re fired!”
