Trump Claims Bigly Award

By Darrell Roberts

With a few short days to go in completing his first full year in office, one must admit that President Trump has not enjoyed much success.

Trump’s first-year approval ratings are historically low, Obamacare has not been repealed nor replaced, and Mexico has still not paid for ‘The Wall.’  The only victories Trump can eagerly lay claim to are possessing enough Congressional votes to confirm Neal Gorsuch to the Supreme Court and the end of year bigly “it’s cool to say Merry Christmas again” tax cuts as a considerably convenient gift that seems to benefit President Trump and his family greatly.

Unfortunately, the losers and haters would not allow the President to enjoy his big legislative victory (and likely monetary windfall) during his “working vacation” that was spent mainly golfing.

The Gallup poll would be the bearer of bad news as their “fake” poll would declare that President Barrack Hussein Obama is “The Most Admired Man” of 2017.   The victory would be Obama’s tenth in a row, but even worse, it also means that President Trump is a rare incumbent loser.  After all, 58 out 71 times the sitting U.S. President was voted by Gallup as “The Most Admired Man.”  Trump is not just a loser, but a second place finish–the spot reserved for the best losers.  Plus, his loss was to President Obama.   Perhaps, Obama’s bigly win in the Gallup poll played a part in Trump’s announcement of his own “fake news” awards.

Nobody knows for sure, but a Trump tweet for everything does reveal:

In true Trump fashion, his initial promise of an awaited release did not happen.

Instead, Trump changed not only his plans to unveil his awards but also changed the title initially deemed as “THE MOST DISHONEST & CORRUPT MEDIA AWARDS OF THE YEAR” but now shall be known as “The Fake News Awards”:

The world anxiously awaits.  Not for Trump’s awards but to see if he gets distracted by something shiny or if it just another empty promise of a delivery date left unfulfilled.

However,  Trump’s bold move was recognized and earned him his own bigly award.  The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) honor of Trump states:

Amid the public discourse of fake news and President Trump’s announcement via Twitter about his planned “fake news” awards ceremony, CPJ is recognizing world leaders who have gone out of their way to attack the press and undermine the norms that support freedom of the media. From an unparalleled fear of their critics and the truth, to a relentless commitment to censorship, these five leaders and the runner-ups in their categories have gone above and beyond to silence critical voices and weaken democracy.

The CPJ Press Oppressors awards are a who’s who list of not only President Trump but a few of his most admired world leaders.  Impressively, but disappointingly, President Trump placed second in one of the four categories.  Nevertheless, the President was recognized with his own distinct award.

Here is a list of the Awards and Winner/Runner-up:

Most Thin-skinned

Winner: President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkey

Runner-Up: President Donald Trump, United States

Most Outrageous Use of Terror Laws Against the Press

Winner: President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkey

Runner-Up: President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Egypt

Tightest Grip on Media (excludes countries with no independent media, such as North Korea and Eritrea)

Winner: President Xi Jinping, China

Runner-Up: President Vladimir Putin, Russia

Biggest Backslider in Press Freedom

Winner: State Counselor and de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar

Runner-Up: President Andrzej Duda, Poland

Overall Achievement in Undermining Global Press Freedom

Winner: President Donald Trump, United States (no runner-up)

President Trump’s significant contributions to journalism are highlighted in the following CPJ announcement:

The United States, with its First Amendment protection for a free press, has long stood as a beacon for independent media around the world. While previous U.S. presidents have each criticized the press to some degree, they have also made public commitments to uphold its essential role in democracy, at home and abroad. Trump, by contrast, has consistently undermined domestic news outlets and declined to publicly raise freedom of the press with repressive leaders such as Xi, Erdo?an, and Sisi. Authorities in ChinaSyria, and Russia have adopted Trump’s “fake news” epithet, and Erdo?an has applauded at least one of his verbal attacks on journalists. Under Trump’s administration, the Department of Justice has failed to commit to guidelines intended to protect journalists’ sources, and the State Department has proposed to cut funding for international organizations that help buttress international norms in support of free expression. As Trump and other Western powers fail to pressure the world’s most repressive leaders into improving the climate for press freedom, the number of journalists in prison globally is at a record high.

To the losers and haters, it is important to realize that President Trump in less than one full year in office is already gaining renowned recognition and mention alongside the likes of Turkish President Erdogan, Chinese President Jinping, and of course, Russian President Putin.  At his current rate of progression, along with his “Fake News Awards” set for release–President Trump is “one to watch” and shows he will be even more competitive in possible future editions of the CPJ Press Oppressors awards.

The moral of this story is President Donald J. Trump’s methods to attack the press–is not normal.  Furthermore, he shows no signs of letting up his insults against both news organizations and individual journalists.   None of this is normal, but each and every day–people are coming to accept such lunacy as the status quo.

Do not forget and never accept Trump’s lowering of American democracy by his relentless attacks against the only current U.S. “checks and balances” system (the media and journalists) of the Trump regime.  Today equals day closer to the end.  The end of what?  Well, it depends upon a majority of Americans to remember; the current Trumpocracy is not American democracy.
