According to recent reports, President Trump is expecting to meet Russian President Vladamir Putin during an upcoming summit in Vietnam. One could assume the obvious statement, “Finally, it is about time that Trump stepped up and went to ‘Nam.” Indeed, the joke is both funny and relevant, but this is not the time for zinging wisecracks. Although, all should never forget that President Trump had one, two, three, four, nope–five deferments to avoid the Vietnam War draft. Dang, sometimes one can’t stop themselves, but enough. The purpose of this article is the weirdness that surrounds a pseudo-impromptu upcoming meeting between Trump and Putin.
President Trump claims the meeting is to gain the assistance of Russia to deal with the ongoing tension with North Korea. However, even if one were to overlook the recent indictments and one guilty plea in the Special Counsel’s investigation stemming from Russia’s 2016 election meddling and the possible links to the Trump campaign, the proposed meeting is still…peculiar.
The first weird point is in appearance. Why would someone facing investigation of colluding with the known perpetrator of a crime (based on findings of U.S. intelligence agencies) suddenly agree to a short notice meeting with the same criminal perpetrator?
The second weird point is the recent and developing story of President Trump’s commerce secretary Wilbur Ross and Russia. Also, there appear to be added questions surrounding President Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and Russia investments.
The third weird point that has recently surfaced, involves the now-infamous “Russian lawyer” Natalia Veselnitskaya and her recent revelations. One could almost conclude that the “Russian lawyer” offering to testify to in a public hearing before Congress is some kind of leveraging position. If this is true, one could conclude Veselnitskaya is threatening to either “spill the beans” on the June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower with Donald Trump, Jr., Paul Manafort, and Jared Kushner or helping President Trump out by testifying about alleged illegal money making its way into the Clinton campaign. Who knows for sure? However, there appears to be a whole lot more about Trump/Russia meeting that has yet to be publicly disclosed.
PS, how could one forget what happened the last time Putin and Trump met?
First, there were the conflicting reports on what actually happened during the first meeting between the pair. A quick summary of the dispute involves what Trump said to Putin about the 2016 election meddling. One version has Trump being “strong” and the Russian version suggests Trump bought Putin’s, “wasn’t me” excuse.
Secondly, there was that whole “second meeting” that was unscheduled. Apparently, President Trump decided it was a good idea to get up during dinner and go meet with Putin. During this second meeting, there was no U.S. translator or anyone with President Trump to verify what the conversation was actually about.
Third, President Trump said the second (dinner) meeting was about “adoptions.” The meeting was shortly after the public disclosure of the Trump Jr./Russia meeting. Furthermore, it would come to light that President Trump helped create Jr.’s the meeting was about “adoption” narrative that was presented to the public. Just for fun, here’s the Fox News defense of President Trump helping conceive Jr.’s Russia meeting excuse.
Now ask yourself, “Does any of this seem normal?”
The correct answer is “no.” It’s that simple, this is not normal–it is extremely bizarre.
Just a hunch, but stay tuned for further weird developments on this unfolding saga.
