Will someone please explain when situations went from neutralization to straight death? It seems like whenever an officer feels threatened, it is an automatic shoot to kill scenario. What happened to tasers? What happened to pepper spray? What happened to the truncheon? Why are they not being used first and foremost prior to gun usage?
In the case of the Georgia Tech student that was shot to death, a taser would have worked perfectly. Instead, the campus popo went for the immediate death penalty. He just had a knife for heaven’s sake. He did not charge at the campus officers. This should have been handled very differently.

This is just the latest in a slew of officers going straight for the kill. Some of you might be thinking that the suspects should just obey the officer’s commands, and none of this would have to happen. Knowing why someone does not listen to orders from officers is a mystery to all involved. However, even if disobedience is prevalent, death is not the answer.
It seems that most officers are extra jumpy when it comes to anyone that are not white dudes, and/or folks that have different gender definitions other than theirs. If you are nervous around other ethnicities and gender types, then you should not be an officer. You are prejudice and would not be able to protect and serve all people. All people deserve the same respect from officers. Until this happens, we will continue to see tragedy and tragedy play out.
