Trump Pushes Travel Ban In Wake of London Terrorist Attack

By Andrew Witzel

The fifth terrorist attack has taken place in Britain since the beginning of the year. Trump has decided that he’s going to use it to his advantage by unleashing a tweet storm of comments. I still don’t get why his supporters continue to actually support him when there is example after example of his incompetence as president. The tweet below is representative of our president’s typical response using it to push his own agenda. He’s implied that Scotland Yard wasn’t doing their job and missed the opportunity to stop this terror attack from happening.

I’m sure in Trump’s world of immaturity this tweet makes perfect sense. Loser terrorists are flowing into the United States in droves, planning on killing Americans, and Congress and the Supreme Court aren’t letting him ban them from the country. I wonder if Trump could pick a terrorist out of a crowd from everyone else if confronted with one. His idea of a terrorist is probably the stereotypical portrayal of a middle eastern man with a beard and an assault rifle on his shoulder. In reality, terrorists look disturbingly average and are masters at blending in with the crowd.

And the statement “would not be politically correct” from the poster child of politically incorrect, ridiculous.

It would be safe to assume that no sitting president has ever used the word “stupidly” in any form of official correspondence. These are the words of someone who has repeatedly been blocked at every turn attempting to enforce a travel ban. A travel ban put in place by executive order, in January, that despite many re-writes, STILL has not been allowed to happen. Blocking our borders from six primarily Muslim countries won’t keep terrorists out of our country. A ban is reactive, not proactive. The focus and energy of our law enforcement and intelligence communities must be on finding, verifying and neutralizing threats before they happen. Regardless of whatever ban is in place, they will most certainly make it into our country.

Here is a perfect example of someone showing to the world that they really don’t understand how the Internet works. You can’t cut them off of something that isn’t “owned” by any one person or country. China has attempted to do that for years and has never actually been successful despite their best efforts. As much as I would like to eliminate the Internet as a means of communication for terrorists, doing so would force the world to experience the Internet in a way it wasn’t originally designed. Using better, as Trump says in his tweet, starts with putting resources where they belong. That isn’t into building a wall, banning travel or cutting off the Internet. The man needs to listen to those around him instead of pretending he knows everything. Trump should be ashamed of everything he’s done the last 9 months.

I'm a middle aged tech geek with a passion for computers, technology, politics and all the bits in the middle between 0 and 1. I am what could be considered a moderate progressive and like to consider all sides of a debate before taking a position.

  1. “Trump should be ashamed of everything he’s done the last 9 months.” That would only be possible if he had the slightest idea what the hell he said ten minutes ago, let alone over the course of 9 months. I think he’s just spouting like a child without a checking-station between his brain-pan and mouth.
