Reuters just published an article “Prominent U.S. religious conservatives defend Trump after Charlottesville,” and I can’t believe these people do not see the hatred they are consumed with. I’ve made numerous references to the parable of “The Emperor’s New Clothes” about our current President, but now we have the crowning event.
If you don’t understand how it’s easy for me to call Trump’s agenda hateful, let me explain. It’s quite simple: Trump’s plan is a hateful agenda because he believes in “bad people,” he believes in walls and exclusion, he believes in punishment and retaliation.
These, and the many other traits he displays (bullying, narcissism, prejudice, misogyny, etc.) do not stand for nor represent any of the teachings of Christ. It would seem the pastors in this article and similar pastors and their followers practice some form of religion that actually leaves Jesus out of the equation or practice. Perhaps we should start calling them “Alt-Christians,” for that is more like what they are.
Think back to the time of the Presidential Primary and Donald J. Trump declaring he could “stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody” and not ‘lose any voters‘.” This is the “Conservative Christian’s” candidate. Think about this and realize with hindsight that he was correct, for now he has Heather Heyer’s blood on his hands, and they don’t care.
To say you are of Christian faith means that you are a follower of Christ, or Jesus, or Jesus Christ. This would mean you would be a person of love first above all else. You would be compassionate, forgiving and full of mercy and humbleness. You would be open armed about refugees, especially those coming to us from countries torn apart by war(s) we (America) are funding or involved with.
To be a follower of Christ, you would embrace your fellow humans with love, and you would want everyone to have access affordable to health care, and education and opportunity. You would not judge your fellow men or women for the choices they make about their own bodies from a health or sexual preference. It’s always been my contention that it would be Jesus’ opinion that it’s no one’s business except between the person and The Father (God). We are not worthy of judging another in that regard. As with Jesus, we each have a direct connection to God, and we should make our connection that way and strengthen that relationship. Our relationship to other humans should come from our hearts and not judgment and should be based on service.
To be a Christian is to try to work with your fellow humans to be of assistance and to find common ground. To be Christian is to be loving to all people not just people of certain colors. To be Christian is to follow the teachings provided by Jesus himself.
“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father.”
We each have a connection to “the Father,” although some of us may call it different things. God, Source, The One, The All That IS are all applicable and common names for what Jesus called the Father.
But the predominant “Christians” representing the Conservative side, such as Jerry Fallwell, Jr. and Mike Huckabee in the article, have just come out supporting the President for his remarks after the incidents in Charlottesville, VA, where Heather Heyer was murdered by an “American” Nazi. There’s a new kind of “Christianity” in America, and it’s based on hate and self-service and self-enrichment. Sure those people will say they love their neighbors, but what they won’t say is that their neighbors are all white, and straight. These people are no more Christian than the guy who murdered Heather Heyer is an American.
Just as we are calling out the obvious hate groups, the hate groups that the Southern Poverty Law Group has classified, we also need to start calling out these fringe, “alt-Christian” groups for what they are: hate groups. They should not be allowed to hide behind the label of “Christian,” because they promote hate and self-serving doctrines, and they want and are trying to make us all live by their rules.
So the man who said he could kill someone on 5th Avenue was sort of right. He killed Heather Heyer with his complacency. He emboldened and enabled the neo-Nazi, KKK, Alt-Right rally in Virginia, and when they killed an innocent female bystander he literally couldn’t care less, and neither do his supporters who claim themselves “Christian.”
We are living through a real-life experience of the message contained the parable The Emperor’s New Clothes. These people are so convinced of their righteousness, so egotistical in their beliefs and so blind to the truth that they cannot see that the most popular tweet in the history of the world would quickly outpace that of Barack Obama’s.
If the President were to tweet “I resign.” the world would rejoice.
I wrote an article about the beating drum of #Resignation. What’s trending now is #TrumpResign!
The President of America can not be an emperor without clothes. Resign now, we implore you. Take your entire cabinet, administration, and V.P. with you. We need to hold a new election from scratch, no Bernie, no Hillary, no voting machines.
