If you haven’t heard by now, our sitting President attended a Boy Scout’s Jamboree today, speaking in front of as many as 40,000 young scouts. Headlines covering the event include “Trump boy scout Jamboree speech angers parents” BBC News, “The 29 most cringe-worthy lines from Donald Trump’s hyper-political speech to the Boy Scouts” CNN, and “Trump speech to Boy Scout Jamboree elicits widespread criticism for its partisanship, and profanity” LA Times.
We’ve entered unchartered waters when our predominant thoughts become “we need to keep the President of the United States away from our children.”
What more can be said about today and this gut wrenching display of egotism, sexism, bullying, profanity, abuse of power and dishonesty? What are we teaching our children? What lessons did those young, impressionable men learn today?
What will be their takeaways? What will they remember and tell their children? How will today be written up in the history books?
Decency, honesty, purpose, and valor are values that seem to be fading into the background in favor of glitz and showmanship, small words and shallow thoughts.
Where do we go from here? What does our future look like? Imagine America in 30 years. What does it look like?
If you don’t like what you see, then please get involved now, immediately in whatever way you can, to steer this shipwreck back into safe waters.
And as I like to always add, Insist On Love #InsistOnLove first for yourself then from yourself for others and finally invite others to join you in this.
