Another Day, Another Trump: Don Jr. Epiphany To The NY Times

By Jason Taylor

The Trump Presidency continues to feel like I’m stuck in a never ending Federico Fellini movie. Not a single day goes by that we are not struck with some sort of bombshell, and Sunday was no different. With Donald Trump Jr. releasing a statement contradicting what he had said the previous day, as I noted in an early Sunday morning piece: Is There Anyone The Trump’s Met During The Elections Who Wasn’t Russian?

Donald Trump Jr. met with a Russian lawyer with ties to the Kremlin during the 2016 presidential campaign, after being promised damaging information about Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, The New York Times reported on Sunday.

Donald Trump Jr. said in a statement to the New York Times on Sunday that he had met with Veselnitskaya at the request of an acquaintance and denied that he received any information on Clinton.

“After pleasantries were exchanged, the woman stated that she had information that individuals connected to Russia were funding the Democratic National Committee and supporting Ms. Clinton,” Trump Jr. said in his statement. “Her statements were vague, ambiguous and made no sense. No details or supporting information was provided or even offered. It quickly became clear that she had no meaningful information.”

He said they then talked about American adoptions of Russian children.

“It became clear to me that this was the true agenda all along and that the claims of potentially helpful information were a pretext for the meeting.” Trump Jr. told the paper.

He also said in his statement to the Times that Kushner and Manafort attended the meeting at his request, and were not aware of the purpose of the meeting.

If the Special Counsel Mueller was looking for the smoking gun in the collusion between Russian operatives and Trump and his campaign they are not going to get too much hotter than this one. This one comes with the fingerprints of Jared Kushner, Paul Manafort and Donald Jr. who has taken it upon himself to certify its authenticity in with all the TV networks.

At the very least it means the top people in Trump Campaign World — Manafort, Kushner, Donald Jr. — were willing to meet with anybody from Russia who claimed to have dirt to smear HRC with. The likelihood some stranger from Russia obtained this dirt by legal means would be nil. And then they repeatedly lied about and covered up this meeting when it was legally imperative to disclose it. Former CIA agent Bob Baer and Bush ethics lawyer Richard Painter both said Sunday night this smells like treason.

It seems like if a Russian wanted to meet with the Trump campaign with damaging info. on the Clinton campaign, the first thing Trump, Jr. should have done was to go to the FBI. Also, it might be helpful if you admit to the real reason for the meeting up front and not say it was just about adoption.

Come on, Republicans. How can you keep enabling these people?

That Donald Trump Jr. took this meeting and lied about its subject matter to the Times just hours ago may be the glittering object of the moment; but a far bigger problem for Donald Trump now is that Paul Manafort and Jared Kushner were there. Mr. Kushner is a high-level government employee with a top-secret security clearance and has the largest portfolio of international relations responsibilities of anyone in history who was neither a President or Secretary of State. He did not disclose this meeting on his security clearance application, a direct violation.

Paul Manafort was Trump’s campaign chairman at the time, and the revelation of this meeting and its high voltage subject matter imperils the veracity of the never-ending “no collaboration” mantra that the White House and its apologists constantly churn out.

Step back a moment and consider. Nixon was rightly chased from office for far less than is here.

When will the Republicans in Congress stand up and say enough? There are countless stories like this. He openly denies that Russia did any tampering in our election. Furthermore, his agreement with Putin at the G20 Summit to form a cyber-security task force to prevent elections from being tampered with is absolutely laughable and terrifying. In 2016, they had to interfere with our election all on their own (perhaps with Trump’s collaboration).

Going forward, we’ll partner with them to give them the keys to the store. So, we’ll actually be helping them do it in 2020. I mean, I can’t imagine this partnership will actually materialize. But then again, it looks like was actually going to do a thorough investigation of voter fraud because Trump thinks 3 to 5 million people voted illegally. I thought that was one of his 100s of stupid thoughts that would eventually disappear too. People 2 or 3 generations from now will look back and wonder what those who supported Trump were thinking.

Hillary was wrong when she answered a moderator’s question during one of the debates if there was anything good she could say about Trump. She responded, “his children.” It would be hard to imagine a more corrupt, dishonest multi-generational family of like-minded grifters than the Trump-Kushner clan.

At least the Russians are great liars because they are more believable than the failing lies from Trump and family that are never believable or remotely plausible.
