8th Time’s The Charm

By Lorana Hoopes

As the new Congress convenes, one issue is forefront in their mind: Defunding the abortion giant, Planned Parenthood. This will be the eighth time that they will have voted to defund them, but in the past, Obama always promised to veto them.

It will be interesting to see where Donald Trump falls.

In the past Trump has said Planned Parenthood does “good things” but that he didn’t like abortion. Though the over $450 million tax dollars that fund Planned Parenthood do not explicity cover abortion, they do in the fact that Planned Parenthood can then spend the other private donations to push abortion – their money making machine.

Liberals are, of course, up in arms about this, claiming Republicans are out to regulate vaginas, but the GOP isn’t locking women up in chastity belts. They aren’t telling women they can’t continue to sleep with every Tom, Dick, and Harry they want. They aren’t even saying women can’t continue to have their unborn children torn limb from limb if they want. What they are saying is that a heinous corporation that can afford to pay their CEO over $600,000 a year, a 40% increase since 2011, doesn’t need our tax dollars.

And the fake news is circulating that this means the GOP doesn’t care about women’s health, when in fact, it is just the opposite. Abortion is not healthcare; it is a death sentence for at least one of the patients every time and occasionally both. Defunding Planned Parenthood also doesn’t mean that all those women won’t get mammograms or PAP smears because there are actually 20 comprehensive women’s health care clinics for every one Planned Parenthood. Women will still have plenty of places to go to get actual health care.

Though a Trump presidency scares me on many levels, I hope that he and the GOP will stay strong in the pro-life fight. As technology increases, bills are being introduced to ban abortions after twenty weeks when it has been determined babies feel intense pain. Liberals should actually applaud this – after all these women are having abortions because they don’t want to hurt the baby right? They are killing them because it’s what best for them. (I’ll never understand that logic) If that is the case, then stopping abortions when the baby can feel pain should be a no brainer. Of course, so should not killing something with its own heartbeat, organs, and fingerprints.

In the age of Black Lives Matter, it still floors me how “it’s my body” is an acceptable excuse for using abortion as birth control. The limbs and clumps of tissue that have to be reassembled after an abortion to make sure no part of the baby remains (which might cause an infection) are certainly not “your body.” The heart and brain that are crushed to be pulled out by forceps are not your own.

My hope is that one day we will realize that unborn persons are just like the rest of us and deserve the same right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. After all as Dr. Seuss said, “a person’s a person no matter how small.”

  1. Women should have choices about THEIR body, but not about the baby’s body growing inside them. PP used our tax money to donate to Hillary’s campaign. They don’t need our tax money even for exams and tests. Let Hollywood pay for those!
