Before even being elected, Trump is managing to do something no president before him has been able to do. He is uniting the people . . . against him.
#TheResistance is trending as people state why they are standing against Trump. Those on the left have many reasons to choose from: his ties with Russia, his ineptitude, his fragile ego, his pro-life stance, etc.
But those on the right have many of the same concerns – all except his pro-life stance.
I keep hoping that something good will come out of a Trump presidency: that Trump will give power back to the states, that Obamacare will be reworked to make sense, that Planned Parenthood will be defunded, that entitlements will be revisted to help lower the national debt, but none of these are happening right now. Instead, Trump is still tweeting about his fragile ego and his supposed “only me” knowledge of Russia hacking our election. Even today he was still tweeting about his big win, yet he hasn’t been attending briefings, and his cabinet picks are largely part of the swamp he stated he wanted to drain. This man seems incapable of doing anything except growing his ego or attacking those who bruise it.
As I returned from visiting relatives for Christmas, I was reminded of why people voted for him in the first place. I heard many times “Well, it can’t get much worse, and maybe his change will be better.” People voted for Obama hoping for change, and many of the same people voted for Trump for the same reasons. But is this really the change we wanted?
I’ll keep my optimism in place as I watch Trump take office in a few short weeks, but I will not stand by if fascism begins to take place. I will not be silent if Trump tries to turn the United States into Russia.
