These are the founding words of the United States of America. At once both powerful and beautiful. How tragic it is that one word from this bold statement — equal — has been perverted to support a leftist/Marxist agenda that runs totally counter to the goals and ideals of the Founding Fathers of the United States.
The self-evident truth that all men are created equal is not to say that all men possess the same abilities or enjoy the same material wealth. Rather, the self-evident truth is that all men are equal in that they have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Note that life and liberty are guaranteed, but happiness is not.
The latter is an extremely important, often-overlooked point the Founding Fathers were trying to make. Yes, we are all equal in the most basic sense. We are all worth something as humans, blessed with life, and free to use our God-given skills and abilities to PURSUE happiness on our own. This is what “…with liberty and justice for all” is really all about. The Founding Fathers knew that liberty would create economic inequalities. After all, if people are free to act on their own, within a just law, then they are also free to not act. Inaction will never — and should never — yield the same results as action.
The “equality” pushed by leftists is nothing short of oppression; it is slavery. The left’s brand of equality, one where everyone should possess the same things or live the same class of lifestyle, regardless of ability, ambition, or accomplishment, leads not to prosperity but mediocrity. This artificial equality will not bring the bottom and middle to the top, it will bring the top and the middle to the bottom. Why? Because under the leftist/Marxist philosophy, the outcome of hard work and creativity must be equal to that of laziness or incompetence. One only need to review his or her history lessons (particularly those involving Mr. Marx) to see what this perversion of equality does to a prosperous people.
What is self-evident is the Founding Fathers of the United States never intended for America’s people to be equal in the leftist/Marxist sense. What they created was not a system of government that enforces material equality, but one that provides equal opportunity. They devised and crafted a framework where we are all equal under a just law which secures rather than imposes upon our unalienable rights. Leftists think quite differently, and unfortunately, there are many within the Democratic Party (and a few in the Republican Party as well) that are at work to change the American concept of equality to the kind of “equality” we fought to end the Cold War.
