Do you have a pet? Have you ever had a pet? I have. It’s awesome. It’s a pain in the derriere. It’s rewarding. It’s aggravating. It’s real life.
I have a pet. She is awesome. She is abundantly happy to see me everyday when I get home. She loves me unconditionally. She doesn’t care if I put on make up today. She doesn’t care if I gained 3 pounds. She doesn’t even get mad when I give her a bath or cut her hair.
That brings me to the point. What kind of person does not ever have a pet? Donald Trump that’s who. He has never had a pet. He’s never had a dog. What kind of man has never had a dog?
Does it make Trump a horrible human being? No. Not at all. It does make him unrelatable. It does make him different than 90% of all other Americans. Most Americans have owned a pet at least during their childhood. Trump has not ever owned a pet; not even as a child. You may ask “what does this have to do with anything?”
It has to do with the ability to experience empathy. Empathy is not the same as sympathy. Sympathy involves feeling sorry for someone else when they are in unpleasant circumstances. Empathy involves understanding the actual feelings of someone while they are enduring unpleasant circumstances.
Owning a pet involves empathy. It involves being able to put someone else’s feelings and needs, even a pet, above yourself. Trump has demonstrated over and over that he doesn’t understand empathy. He has no idea what empathy is. He’s never had a pet. I’ll admit this is a trivial connection; however, I think it gives a little insight.
I can’t trust a man who can’t trust a dog.
